Time is Money

What's one thing that if lost you can never get back?

!!TIME!!

Time is something we sometimes take for granted, but truly one of our most valuable assets.

Because time is so precious, we must be very mindful of how we use it, especially how we sometimes waste it.

An example of wasted time for me is going grocery shopping. This may sound silly, but the grocery store is my enemy. I do not like going, but to make matters worse, it takes me forever to get out. I am the person who has to go down every aisle (except the pet aisle 😃...I have no pets) - list or no list. Anyway, I can easily be in the store for over 2 hours and by that time I've gotten on my own nerves. Spending that much time in the store usually means a bigger bill too so now I've lost money and time. This has to end!

Knowing this about myself, I realized that my time is much more valuable than the way I was spending it at the grocery store. There are so many other things that I could be doing instead of walking around the grocery store, and ideally, things that will add some monetary value. I now order my food online and pick up at the store. This saves me time, money, and leaves my nerves unraveled.

Sometimes saving time comes at a cost. There may be a small fee for the service (store pick-up fee), but in the end, I save time and I typically spend less.

How are you spending (or wasting) time?

Everyone is different, but we all have our weaknesses. What could you do less of? What's draining your time? Only you know. The key is to evaluate how you spend your time and determine if there are things that can be done differently.

Consider these ways to maximize your time:

  • Do a little every day instead of losing an entire weekend to chores.
    • Housework can seem neverending. Try to spread it over time so that you're not losing an entire day to housework.
    • Still too much? Hire someone. Sometimes the time savings outweighs the expense.
  • Limit time spent on Social Media.
    • Unless Social Media is improving your bottom-line, the time spent is usually a waste. Allow times to check in, but don't allow it to consume you or your day.
  • Listen to audiobooks in the car.
    • Entertainment
    • Brain Food
  • Work out while watching your favorite shows
    • Stretching, stepping, and other simple exercises can be done while binge-watching your favorite shows.
    • Do exercises during the commercial breaks. Maybe some burpees, situps, pushups, planks...
  • Always have a book.
    • Keep a book or magazine with you wherever you go. When you find yourself waiting ( barber, beauty shop, nail shop, car dealership, doctor's office, etc.), take some time to read and stimulate your mind.
The point is to really be mindful of your time, prioritize, and realize that your time is valuable and once lost, you cannot get it back.
     Time wasted = opportunities lost.
